The Wisdom of Winter
FULL PODCAST EPISODE 062
Something I’ve personally experienced is the winter blues, also known as Seasonal Affective Disorders. I’ve spent a lot of time learning how to counteract this disorder and to plan for the winter season ahead of time, which starts by knowing my patterns and behaviors.
Personally I use tools like the Verilux light, which mimics the light of the sun and helps with your circadian rhythm. It’s not healthy to just live in the dark, it affects vitamin D levels, melatonin levels, mental clarity, and moods. Use it first thing in the morning. You can also take vitamin D supplements, drops, or pills in the winter. Magnesium is a wonder vitamin that helps with your digestive system and a lot of other areas.
Aromatherapy, particularly citrus scents, work great in the winter as it reminds you of summer. Get some exercise and hang out with friends and family. As much as you don’t want to burden people, isolation will make winter feel so much worse. People want to help you, especially professionals who know exactly what you’re going through. Make your new year’s resolution now instead of waiting for 2019, so that you can start the new year running and implementing. Try something new every January, pick up a new skill and the reward centres of your brain will light up.
To your continued evolution, live it up with POWER, PURPOSE & PASSION!
