Passion & Money
FULL PODCAST EPISODE 054
People are often stuck in a job they don’t like but are scared to leave and lose the stability. John Maxwell says there are two steps in your career, the first step is find something you would do for free, and the second step is to get so good at it that people are willing to pay for it. Go out and serve and provide so much value that people notice you and seek your skills.
This is a much longer process than most people anticipate, and we live in a world driven by instant gratification that can’t manage more than a few obstacles. Once you accept the journey, stick with it, get mentors, make adjustment, and persist, then you will reach peak performance. Have you put in the effort and stepped up to prove you deserve a raise? If you’re passionate about something you’ll want to put in the extra effort to get better at it.
From 9-5 work your job, and from 5-9 work on your dream. A lot of people are exhausted by the end of the workday, but if your dream is something that excites you, you will find the energy to get through it. It will take discipline, as you won’t love what you do 100% of the time. Define and refine what you love to eventually make profits internally and externally. People will notice your skills and want you on their team.
Once you’re making money, what do you do to keep as much as you can? Pay yourself first, meaning invest before you spend. Investing is simple, but not easy, so find ways to improve your financial IQ as much as possible. The next step is to spend well below your means and create a financial budget. Then figure out how to make money doing what you enjoy on the side, create another source of income. Often when you do what you love all day, you’ll begin to see it as work and hate it. Just remember your passion isn’t necessarily the same as your purpose.
To your continued evolution, live it up with POWER, PURPOSE & PASSION!
