The first step in any journey is always to know thyself. Those who study others are wise, and those who study themselves are enlightened. You have the power to change your physical and mental state, but not if you’re down in the dumps. Go seek help from someone you admire. Peak performance is not just for athletes, it is for everyone and can be applied to any role.
So how do you reach peak potential? What you focus on will determine how you feel. If you end your relationship, are you focusing on the end of that relationship, or the beginning of a new relationship? The perspective you take and the meaning you give to your experience makes all the difference. You can’t always change your circumstances, but you have the power to put meaning to that situation.
Focus, meaning, and action are the three keys. What you focus on is determined by your mental state, meaning you could have a great day, but if you’re tired you’ll look at it negatively and put a bad meaning to it. You would then take action based on those negative thoughts. Exercising and moving your body changes your state and raises your capacity to see the bright side.
Your state is determined by your focus, physiology, and what you say to yourself. If you change even one of these things, it’ll affect the other two and how people see you. The person with the most energy and certainty will win at the end of the day. When you wake up in the morning, turn yourself on before you turn your phone on. Another tip is to find a passion or hobby to pump you up, or even do it for a loved one. Human beings do best when they’re inspired and challenged.
